Orchard Road

Named after the fruit orchards, nutmeg plantations and pepper farms that once lined in the street, Orchard Road is a world renowned shopping destination and a must-see stopover for every Singapore tourist.  A one-way 2.2 kilometre-long shopping belt in the central area of Singapore, Orchard Road has numerous internationally renowned department stores and landmark shopping complexes and houses quite a number of prime office towers within the vicinity. 

Majority of the office buildings in the Orchard zone line along the Orchard Road, Orchard Boulevard and Somerset Road.  At the start of the Orchard Road near Orchard MRT Station, we have Wheelock Place, Liat Towers, Shaw Centre, Shaw House, Tong Building, Ngee Ann City and Wisma Atria, a 22-storey shopping mall office building comprising a podium of 5 levels of shops 3 levels of car parks and 13 levels of offices in the tower block.  Stretching towards Orchard Boulevard, there are Forum Office Tower, Palais Renaissance, Delphi Orchard and Tanglin Shopping Centre. 

Further down towards the Somerset MRT station, there are Orchard Gateway, Faber House, The Heeren, Orchard Building, Regency House, Winsland House I & II, and Tripleone Somerset, a recently refurbished office development consisting of 2 blocks of 17-storey office towers and a retail podium.

Close to Dhoby Ghaut MRT Station towards the end of Orchard Road, we see The Cathy, The Oxley, YMCA,

Haw Par Centre, Har Par Glass Tower and Singapore Shopping Centre, and Macdonald House, a 10-story historical office building right above Dhoby Ghaut MRT Station.

Other notable office buildings in Orchard Road zone include Cuppage Plaza (on Koek Road), Hana (on Tomlinson Road), Orchard Rendezvous Hotel (on Tanglin Road), Tanglin Place (on Tanglin Road), 51 Cuppage Road (on Cuppage Road) and 8 On Claymore (on Claymore Hill).

Orchard Road is lined with a whole host of large scale retail developments, including ION Orchard, Tangs, Wisma Atria, Takashimaya Shopping Centre, Paragon, Orchard Central, and 313 @ Somerset. For overseas visitors, there are more than 50 hotels to choose from, with familiar names of luxury and trendy ones such as Mandarin Oriental, Shangri-La Hotel, Four Seasons, Goodwood Park, St Regis, Hilton and Grand Hyatt etc.

From stylish fine dining restaurants in Ion Orchard to bustling shopping mall food courts offering a quick meal under $10, there are options to suit every palate and budget.
